First Atlantic Health Care’s management team is comprised of experienced leaders in the healthcare industry in Maine and the surrounding region. With collective executive experience totaling in excess of 100 years, there are few healthcare issues our team has not dealt with. Our Maine origins and extensive knowledge of the state’s healthcare needs focuses our commitment to longterm, sustainable healthcare solutions for Mainers.

With facilities located in many of the communities where we live and where our extended families reside, our team is determined to make each facility live up to the expectations we have for comfortable, dignified, private and supportive living environments that promote independence, healing, lifestyle quality and well-being.

 

Craig G. Coffin

Chief Development Officer
30+ years of experience

 Mr. Coffin is the company’s Chief Development Officer and son of the company’s founder, Ronald C. Coffin.

A licensed Nursing Facility Administrator in Maine and Florida, Mr. Coffin began working in the field of geriatric healthcare in 1985. He has run several nursing facilities including the flagship facility Falmouth by the Sea, Falmouth, Maine from 1990 to 1993. In 1995 he became Chief Operating Officer where his responsibilities included oversight of company-wide operations and development activities of the company.

With extensive growth in the last decade, Craig moved from overseeing operations and running development opportunities to focusing solely on company growth as Chief Development Officer in 2014. He was instrumental in the development and construction of Ross Manor, Bangor, Maine, Atlantic Heights, Saco, Maine and Seaport Village in Ellsworth, Maine.

Born in Massachusetts and educated at Proctor Academy, Dean College and the Florida State College of Healthcare for his AIT program, he has for nearly 30 years, been involved with the provision, direction and management of healthcare to the elderly.

Coffin’s expertise includes project managment, vendor selection and monitoring, operation analysis, acquisition analysis and due diligence.

Kenneth W. Bowden

Chief Executive Officer
30+ years of experience

Mr. Bowden joined the company in 1990 and today serves as First Atlantic Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer. Bowden leads a very talented executive team that carries out company objectives related to management, consulting, development, advocacy and regulatory compliance.

A graduate of Ellsworth High School, he continued his education at the University of Maine at Orono, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and an MBA. Once employed by the world-wide public accounting firm of Ernst & Whinney, many of his audit clients were from the health care field including St. Mary’s General Hospital, Penobscot Bay Medical Center and Northern Maine Medical Center to name a few.

Bowden has held many healthcare executive positions including Cost and Reimbursement Manager at St. Mary’s General Hospital and was the first Chief Financial Officer at Jackson Brook Institute, a newly opened Psychiatric/Drug Rehabilitation Hospital located in South Portland, Maine. In 1990, he joined First Atlantic Corporation as Chief Financial Officer where his duties included financial oversight of the nursing, pharmacy and home health divisions. Promoted to Chief Executive Officer in 1995, he continues to serve in this capacity today.

For more than 30 years, Mr. Bowden has been involved with health care services. He is a past board chair of Maine Healthcare Association and Goodwill Northern New England. Recently he served on Speaker Eves’ Aging Round Table and is a current board member of Maine Health Care Association.

Andrea Otis-Higgins

Chief Operating Officer
20+ years of experience

Ms. Otis-Higgins became the company’s Chief Operating Officer in May 2015. She is a registered nurse and holds a certificate of graduate study, nursing education BS in nursing from the University of Southern Maine as well as an MBA with concentration in Leadership from St. Joseph’s College, Standish, ME.

As the COO she provides overall leadership and direction to all employees and is responsible for directing the day to day operations of the company. In addition, she leads our quality assurance performance improvement program (QAPI) and is a leader on our corporate compliance committee.

Andrea specializes in restructuring operations to improve outcomes, helping facilities become more productive and improve customer service. She oversees clinical consulting services, electronic medical record functions, proper compliance with MDS regulation and management of our CMS 5 STAR ratings. She regularly presents on a wide range of clinical and operational topics and has provided consulting services to several long term care providers and hospital systems.

Wanda J. Pelkey

Chief Financial Officer
20+ years of experience

Ms. Pelkey, CPA is the company Chief Financial Officer, providing executive leadership to all company financial and accounting functions.

Born and raised in Skowhegan Maine, she attended the University of Southern Maine graduating Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Accounting. She joined the public accounting firm of Berry Dunn McNeil and Parker in 1988 where she provided auditing and consulting services to clients throughout New England, including many in the healthcare profession. Wanda held the title Senior Manager at BDMP prior to joining First Atlantic in 1997.

Wanda specializes in financial reporting, advanced cash flow analysis, budgeting, reimbursement and third party billing systems. She oversees company technology and human resource functions and serves on our corporate compliance committee. She regularly presents on a wide range of financial topics and provided consulting services to several long term care providers and hospital systems while at First Atlantic.

Over the years, she’s been involved with various trade organizations and DHHS special project committees including past chair and board member of Maine Health Care Association, former trustee of Maine Health Care Workers Compensation Trust and a current member of DHHS’s State Innovative Model Payment Reform Committee.
